Business has never been better for one of Westfield Annapolis Mall’s key venues. The Anne Arundel County Public Library opened back in 2018 and has seen so much growth since. Now, it’s expanding to Arundel Mills Mall.

Like the number of books inside, there’s been no shortage of people.

“Strollers backed up in the parking lot and in front of the space. It really was pretty obvious early on that this was something people wanted, and they wanted it to be even larger,” marketing and communications director Christine Feldmann said.

So wildly successful that the branch at the mall outgrew its first space and then moved.

“We’re meeting people where they’re picking up people, or dinner, or shopping or getting some dry cleaning. It’s about bringing the library to where people need it,” she said.

All the books and programs have turned over big numbers. The library sees over 200 new library card accounts opened every month. That means more readers and shoppers all willing to check it out.

“We’ve seen about 120-percent increase in this wing just in traffic alone,” said Steve Stavropoulos, Westfield Annapolis Mall general manager.

People are coming in for more than just books. Some families are coming in to satisfy their essential needs, starting at the community pantry.

Diapers, toiletries, even women’s hygiene products. The library gives through its one-of-a-kind pantry and other community programs. A concept they’re bringing somewhere new.

“Obviously, Arundel Mills is a very busy, very popular destination and it’s in a part of the county that’s growing,” Feldman said.

Though early on, the partnership at Arundel Mills Mall may be just as valuable.

“We actually see it as an amenity now. Driving traffic is a huge win for us,” Stavropoulos said.
