What are those weird green things on the lawn at the Burlington Mall? And since when did the Mall have a lawn?

Those things are oversized illuminated swings, and the green space is all part of the Mall’s new look and fresh attitude. Along with the arrival of Fogo de Chao, the upscale Brazilian steakhouse, the Mall has added The Park, located outside the restaurant.

The Park is a billed as a multi-use event area, and a “natural respite for shoppers to relax and play,” according to a press release from mall management. In addition to the swings, shoppers and diners will find lawn games, a bocce ball court with custom wicket lighting, a Little Free Library and seating around fire tables for snuggling on cool evenings.

“The FRIENDS of the Burlington Public Library are thrilled to continue our community partnership with the Burlington Mall by maintaining the Little Free Library at The Park.” said Virginia Churchill Shahid, president, FOBPL.  “We are particularly pleased to be supporting a cause that matters to us, reducing, reusing, and repurposing – in this case donated books.”

The plan for the Park is to encourage gathering and alfresco dining at the new restaurants. The landscaping has been designed to manage rainwater with pervious areas and rain gardens. A pedestrian walkway connects to The Village at Burlington Mall, home to Café Nero and Sweetgreens, among other restaurants and amenities.
