TRUMBULL — The owner of the Hawley Lane Mall is extending a pilot program it started at one of its central New Jersey locations, the town’s economic and community development director said.

National Realty & Development Corp. is converting about 7,000 square feet of retail space at the mall into a co-working space known as Jeff Works, said Rina Bakalar, Trumbull’s economic and community development director. The Purchase, N.Y.-based retail property management company opened its first location last month in South Plainfield, N.J.

The makeover work on the vacant space recently got underway and Bakalar said the co-working space will probably open early next year.

“This is going to be a heavily branded pilot with heavily branded launch promoting affordable memberships of $10 or $12 or month with other options, she said. “It’s aimed at people who can’t afford more expensive options with long-term commitments.”

Officials with National Realty & Development Corp. could not be reached for comment on whether any additional Jeff Works locations will be launched in Connecticut.

Jeff Works offers monthly and annual options for membership, which is required to use the space. The cost of the annual membership is $149.

There is a $10 monthly fee with the 12-month commitment. Jeff Works also offers a monthly flex option for $25 per month and members can cancel at any time.
