For a mall that’s seen better days, Sarasota Square has a lot of potential.

It’s in a prime location at U.S. 41 and Beneva Road. The Costco anchor does $130 million in sales a year. And the average yearly income of people living within five miles is just under $100,000.

Basically, what the nearly empty mall needs more than ever is someone to save it from a dire fate. And now that might actually happen.

The 94-acre Sarasota Square property is for sale, according to a listing on the website of real estate firm JLL.

Longtime owner Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield lost control of Sarasota Square as a result of a foreclosure on its mortgage, according to a title filed with Sarasota County in the summer. Now the mall is under the control of an entity associated with receiver LNR Partners of Miami, and JLL has put it on the market.
